The Konzertgesellschaft Basel is a traditional Swiss agency founded in 1948 by Basel conductor and music patron Paul Sacher and Zurich music entrepreneur Hans Jecklin . Founded on January 21, 1928 as a limited liability company , it has evolved into the largest organizer of classical concerts and performances in the Basel region, presenting international artists of the highest caliber .
Under the leadership of impresario Thomas Jung, who serves as owner and managing director, and pianist Anastasia Voltchok Jung, who is co-owner and manager, the Konzertgesellschaft has expanded its reach significantly. In 2020, the organization acquired Agence Caecilia in Geneva, nearly doubling its annual concert offerings to around 70 per year , making it one of Switzerland’s largest classical music presenters with operations spanning Basel, Geneva, and Zurich.
In collaboration with the Allgemeine Musikgesellschaft Basel (AMG), a private institution without state subsidies that has been presenting classical concerts in Basel since 1876 , the Konzertgesellschaft manages multiple prestigious concert series. These include the flagship “Symphonic Gems” series (formerly World Orchestras and Symphony Concerts), “SunDay Concerts,” distinguished solo recitals (“Solistenabende”), and the “Rising Stars” series showcasing emerging talent—creating a vibrant and diverse classical music landscape that brings world-class orchestras, soloists, and tomorrow’s stars to Basel audiences from September through May.
